Cherub Chocolate Interview
Cherub Chocolate, a small batch chocolatier located in downtown Nanaimo, hopes to capitalize on Valentine Days uptick in chocolate sales with various collections exclusive to the occasion.
Owner and master chocolatier Veronika McKerrell recommended the passion ivy velvet heart box as it “includes an assortment of dark and milk chocolates of our best-sellers such as Fleur de Sel and Nanaimo Bar inspired Truffle as well as Divine Apricot, Raspberry Bite and many others.”
McKerrell decided to make gift boxes after seeing the success of the Christmas, and Easter themed boxes from the year prior. The gift boxes available vary in content, but they are essentially a combination of a milk, or dark chocolate bunny and decorative Easter eggs encased in a clear box. Mckerrell suggests this gift box for pretty much anyone noting that people purchased it for “children, but also friends and significant others.”
There is a wide range of pricing options available with gift boxes starting at $3 for individual eggs all the way up to $100 for the larger gift boxes.
Cherub Chocolate is not an allergy free facility so people with nut allergens may want to avoid the chocolate. However, McKerrell notes that Cherub “does try and keep it as natural as possible withholding the use of artificial flavorings, or colorings.”
Mckerrell and her team of chocolatiers pride themselves on using the finest ingredients and hand crafting their chocolates from the ground up. In store they use predominantly single origin chocolate from all over the globe to create a variety of truffles, pralines and other creations.

Cherub Chocolates is located on 165 Commercial Street, Nanaimo, BC (opposite the art gallery) and is open Monday-Saturday from 11am-5pm, and Sunday from 11:30am-5pm.
